Day 5 Exercise Unfinished, of Course!

Posted by PicasaDay 5 was the final day of the workshop, and the day that our final assignment was to be complete by 3pm. No one in the workshop met this deadline, so I am not alone. This piece is 8' by 8'; I call it my petunia garden. My piece was the most spare of all of them and at times I felt that I should be adding lines or "something" to make it less spare, but I could not see a way to improve this piece by adding anything to it. Honestly! Nancy had all good things to say about my piece, from the color choices and value choices to the craftsmanship. She was even supportive of my decision to stick by my convictions (on the spareness of it). Even though it was quite different from the others, in the end I liked my piece, and intend to complete it (actually, I'm looking forward to quilting it!).

It sounds like you had a wonderful time and "Be true to thine own self" is always best. Too many times we think we have to be doing what everyone else is doing, not our own thing. I'm curious how many different fabrics you used in the entire week. I know I hauled a lot that I didn't use.

I used more fabric than I thought I would, and actually, on the final project wished I had more variety of the colors that I used. But I did haul a lot of it home. I would like to take another workshop with her, so I'll be able to use these again hopefully. And also, use them in the quilts I make between now and then.

Hi Twila!

I really enjoyed reading your day by day posts of the workshop. It good to get another person's perspective on the whole thing, especially now I'm home and can reflect in peace! I found it so intense and exhausting, and like you I learned an awful lot.

By the way - I LOVE your little inchy quilts! I wish you had done a presentation so I could see more of them. Fabulous!

It was so lovely to meet you last week, and I will try and be a regular visitor to your blog to check up on your progress.

Take care

Thanks WIG! I'm actually thinking that I'd like to do a smaller rendition of the circles.
