Then the mock-up is done in a 3 x 15 piece with card stock as a backing. The next step will be creating this piece in a 9 x 45 dimension. Not sure of the quilting for the final piece--I'm still thinking that out and it may not be decided until I get well into the full-size piece.

This is interesting. I saw an ad today for a new book, Glimpses of New Zealand, and this reminds me of some of the quilts. Now you have made me want to make some more skinny quilts!
