Lines #8...Faced and Finished (Probably)

Posted by PicasaLines #8 has been faced, with top and bottom horizontal edges not straight. I decided to follow the contours of the edges as they naturally formed--not sure how it became so unsquare since I started with it rather square! After "finishing" it, I decided to apply more paint--interference gold over the verticle reflection lines, and whitened cobalt blue over some of the whitened phthalo blue in some areas. With this, I'm fairly happy to call it finished--really. I would say of this piece that it is not a "Wow!" piece with wide appeal. I think that it is hard to like, perhaps, even for me. I'm just not sure how much I like it. Is this something that is commonly felt?

I have loved (and hated) the devine torture you've gone through with this piece - a true "record of the struggle". I think it's far easier to know "the right" next step with a traditional or naturalistic work. As abstraction is far more personal, watching you indulge the stretch and intutiveness necessary, and for me to step aside, has been very enjoyable. Authentic searching process and lovely product; nice work, Babe.

I rarely like my art pieces when I first finish them, especially the ones I struggle with. Only occasionally do I love a piece right away.

Oh and I forgot to say I really like the UN-straight edges. I'm sure this piece glows in person and that photos don't do it justice.

You have accomplished something quite amazing in this piece. It is 'wow' in my mind. I know, I wasn't there in the process, and the process can sometimes ruin our feelings about the results. You could hide it away for a little while and I'm sure that when you see it with fresh eyes, you will say "Did I really make that!"
