Friendship Star Quilters hosted a wonderful workshop today, Painstick Primer, by Cyndi Souder, which I attended. Having received a set of Shiva Paintsticks from a friend several years ago, I never learned how to effectively use them until this workshop. The photos shown here are the best two examples from my exercises. Can you tell that I like ginko leaves? The colors blended better than I expected.
For one set of leaves on the light background, the base color was metallic yellow, with metallic orange blended next, follwed by limited metallic green, then finally a touch of metallic red. It's interesting how the same paint seems to work differently on a black background, and although the color build was similar, it has a vastly different look. I think a good bit more practice is in order. I consider this workshop as beneficial in building options for textile compositions and would recommend it to others without reservation.

These are wonderful! I've some Shiva Paintsticks too, and have never used them. I am truly inspired. Where did you get the stencils? How do you plan on using the results? And also, what 'sets' the color?
This is way cool!
It was neat to sit behind you in the workshop. I had such fun!
I really would love to get that fingerprint stencil. Saw your later post about exhausting your stencils.. I plan research online availability. If you like, I can combine an order with you.. and the rest of our 'workshop-mates'.
soooo pretty!
