Small Piece,Winter Theme

A project with one of my mini groups was to create a small piece, 12" x 12" or smaller, using a winter theme. This piece was created using a photo as an inspiration. There is no piecing; the trees, branches and moon were painted on the base batik fabric using irridescent Shiva Paintstiks. Quilting was done by hand. Everything had an initial layer of irr. blender. The tree trunks were painted first with irr. gold, then some irr. silver, and select applications of matte green (on tree on right). The lighter branches in the background were painted with irr. silver.

Thanks Ellen! I wasn't sure about the moon's effect, so it's good to have feedback.

You did the trees w/Paintsticks?!
I bought some of those last year and they intimidate me!!!
Obviously, I haven't used them much.
Any suggestions for getting started?

Thanks for the info!
I live right across the Newport News line... around the corner from Denbigh, behind the airport. Small world :o)

I'm just getting back into my creative life after a really traumatic year. School is priority right now, but I've achieved a level of routine where I can play again some.

LOVE your blog. Thanks for sharing!

I really like this piece. the glow around the moon is so realistic. You did a great job with the paintsticks.
