Small though this piece may be, it sure took a long time to quilt. The quilting follows the coils in the fabric coloration in the second and fourth shapes (click on pic to get closer view, though it's not real sharp). This was a laborious process of burying the thread ends on each coil. I had done test samples in which I did continuous free-motion quilting in the coils, and in which each coil was a distinct quilted segment. I preferred the individual segments, which was a pain to do. But now that it's done, I'm glad that I followed my heart on this rather than the quicker method. I've also decided to keep the piece as simple as it was in the paper design, even though I'm tempted to add more. This is an exercise, and I'm determined to stay with the plan. So the next step will be to add the facing, then the label. I'm liking doing smaller pieces; this one will be about 8" x 20".Saturday, April 19, 2008

I really love it. It is so simple, yet not at all when looking closer. This is coming from a novice quilter's opinion. But I love its simplicity yet intricacity. rachie
I really like this piece, and you did great work.Wig.
Twila, this is charming! I liked it before double-clicking - such a sense of serenity, yet like it even more close-up. Your quilting is just enough. Making small items like this is a wonderful way to practice new designs and the best part is that this don't leave you with merely a "practice" piece but something that is so lovely and worth displaying!
WOW back! Your small simple piece is big on impact and complexity. I'll be back to watch this series development.
