Planning the next Lines #n

Posted by PicasaI'm almost hesitant to show my works in process, as I may not use this b&w sketch in fabric as a basis for the next color piece. I'm determined to stay within the boundaries of a simple, uncluttered piece as an exercise. For this one, I used tissue paper, the kind used for making patterns in dressmaking. I separated the cut line and tucked the resulting perpendicular pucker. Then I cut the white lines based on the separated lines and sewed them in. I'm not entirely happy with this one, so I'm working on a second. Should I be showing these work pieces?

I think showing work in progress is a double edged sword. On the one hand the comments you get could be very helpful and encouraging.

On the other hand seemingly helpful comments could take you down a path that isn't right, and get you engrossed in something not true to yourself or true to the goal in your head.

Worst of all you might not get any comments at all!

So, having said this here's my comment: I think it is very beautiful, and I was wondering if you could explain further the way you arrived at these graceful slivers? I didn't really understand when you talked about puckers. Sorry if I'm being dense!

Oh, and I forgot to say, showing work in progress is a brave thing to do - I almost never summon the courage!
