Sumac as an Inspiration

John and I drove the Green Machine to rural Maryland, outside Poolesville, to find examples of Sumac dressed in autumn red, for inspirational photographs. A small group of quilters to which I belong agreed to each create a small quilted piece about Autumn, and Sumac has been on my mind. When we left the house, the late afternoon sun was bright, but as we came into Poolesville, the sun hid behind the gathering coulds, and any Sumac along the road in a spot convenient to stopping was no longer back-lit by the the sun's glow. Having parked the car in a safe place, we walked along a country road toward a cluster of Sumac when John saw this ant-covered discarded apple. We noticed that there was a disturbing amount of discarded items (trash) along this country road. We behaved as if we had found a treasure, when in fact it was just a recently tossed fruit, but it prompted us to snap a couple of photos and post one on this blog. If you're thinking that if I posted this picture I must not have come up with presentable Sumac snapshots, well, you'd be correct. Despite this disappointment in my quest, we had an enjoyable drive in the country in the MGB GT.
