I'm not sure how many unquilted tops were in Aunt Esther's quilt stash when she died in the early 90's, but I'm so glad that my cousin and his wife decided to give one of them to me. I feel honored yet intimidated by the task ahead for this quilt top. Aunt Esther, my Mother's only sister, loved the colors of the earth; this quilt top is quite representative of her work. She also, like me, loved triangles, so I'm pleased that this one is solely triangles. And another bonus for me is that she put a couple of "Green Machine Green" (the lime ones) in it--my most cherished color. Having never hand quilted, I believe this project will be a good one for hand quilting. I'll practice first to be sure. Mostly I'm pleased that there will be a quilt that both Esther and I made. I believe she will be watching and guiding me all the way. Wednesday, December 26, 2007

Hi Twila. Good for you for taking on your aunt's quilt. I think you are right. Handquilting will be beautiful on this quilt. I have a triangle quilt that I am handquilting too which I will post on my blog over the next few weeks. Please keep us posted on your progress. Deborah from www.dgbquilts.wordpress.com
What a lovely quilt--I find hand quilting very relaxing...and whata nice remembrance of your Aunt!
What a treasure! I am not a hand quilter, so I am in awe of your undertaking.
xo
Why is there an "h" in Esther? Sounds kinda funny if you pronounce it that way...(Es'-ther). Hmm.
