Utility Piece

Posted by PicasaA woman who comes to my house every two weeks saw this New York Beauty block on the drafting table. It was the result of a NYB one-night workshop that Lois Smith taught for our quilting quild. As it was my first NYB, I was sure that with some practice I could make a more appealing one; however, since she liked this block so much, I decided to turn it into a hot pad for her for Christmas (well it will be a bit late since I just finished it).

The back is based on a block that I did not use in a quilt from last year. I put a layer of that heat-resistance material between the two separately quilted sides. Not sure if this is the "right" way to do this, but it seemed reasonable to me.
