As I listened to the last broadcast of Mary Cliff's Traditions program on WETA radio tonight, I appliqued the riders on to Sarah Beth's quilt, using the blanket stitch on my Pfaff. I'm now glad that I used Wonder Under for the stabilizer, as the ability to press on the applique became necessary. The horses legs and tails created lacey cutwork on the lower part of the applique, making it very difficult to keep the fabric in the correct place without the adhesive. The next step is to decide on the design of the machine quilting. I'm thinking of circles around the large yellow star, and then lines radiating out from that to all corners of the quilt. Quilting in the appliqued riders will be separate. Perhaps I'll progress with the quilting tomorrow.
